Shown above is the 10m-80m model

Key Features That Put This G5RV Ahead Of Rest

No Bare Exposed Wires

All Solder Joints Internal

Machine Crimped For Permanent Connection

Silver Plated, Teflon Insulated SO-239 with Stainless Steel Mounting Screws

This antenna is rated to operate at full legal limit 2KW.  The new spin on this antenna is the fact that it is built to the very rugged, high standards demanded by me here at W8AMZ Amateur Radios Products. The vertical element, unlike many others, is 450 ohm Window/Ladder line . A rugged G5RV will always use 450 ohm window line or 600 ohm ladder line for the balanced vertical element, not 300 ohm twin lead.

The wire is black jacketed 14 Gauge Stranded Copper wire required by the NEC “National Electrical Code”.
The code states all
permanently installed residential antennas must be minimum 14 gauge wire, regardless or type of metal. The top and bottom Interface units are polyester resin potted and completely water & weather proof and very rugged.

The antenna also uses light weight, high quality PVC dog bone insulators. As with all the antenna components, they all are completely 100% UV stable, for many years of trouble free service. And more importantly, they are completely built in the USA and all components are made in the USA with the exception of the SO-239 connector.

The W8AMZ Amateur Radio Products G5RV is completely finished assembled and ready to hang. In most cases the built in tuner in most radios will tune it just fine, otherwise an external may be needed for proper operation. The 10m-40m Jr. model requires around 51 feet and about 16 feet high, the 10m – 80m model requires about 102 feet and should be about 32 feet high and the 10m – 160m model requires 204 feet and should be about 63 feet in height.

Considering purchasing a W8AMZ 160m Double Size G5RV?

Due to the number of returns of this antenna because of its length and height requirements,

I suggest the following:

Obtain a 300 foot roll of string, cord, or even rope from the store and mock up the antenna.
204 feet across and from the middle of that, a 62 foot "T" to the ground. Hang it in the location you intend to put the W8AMZ 160m Double Size G5RV to verify you have enough length and height. Don't worry too much where the down leg is on your property because there needs be at least 70 feet of coax from the bottom of the antenna to the shack. If you find there is enough room, you now have some of the hard part done, just use the installed string to help install the actual antenna.

This tip may save you re-packing and shipping fees if you purchase one and find its too long for your location.

The G5RV antenna requires a minimum of 70 feet of 50-52 ohm coax to complete the matching network.
Without this 70 foot of coax, the antenna will NOT function correctly.

Optimized G5RV / ZS6BKW  Multi Band Dipole Antenna

    No tuner required for 10, 12, 17, 20 & 40m bands!
        Works 6, 15, 30 & 80m with an antenna tuner!

The ZS6BKW is a computer optimized version of the G5RV multi band antenna. When Louis Varney invented the G5RV it was done with Smith Charts and slide rules, velocity factors of wire insulation and many other important antenna parameters were not factored into the equations.

When ZS6BKW basically re-designed the G5RV and made his version, he took all those parameters into consideration. Later on, his version of the G5RV was redone again with the aid of today’s computer modeling software and optimized even further.

Unlike the original G5RV that requires an antenna tuner on all bands, the ZS6BKW / G5RV is capable of operating on 10, 12, 17, 20 & 40m bands generally without a tuner, with SWR readings usually 1.5:1 or less.
Using a tuner 6, 15, 30 & 80m bands with much higher efficiency then the original G5RV.

The ZS6BKW / G5RV antenna is rated to operate at full legal limit of 2KW.  It is built to the very rugged, high standards demanded by me here at W8AMZ Amateur Radios Products. The vertical element unlike many others is 450 ohm Window/Ladder line. A rugged G5RV type antenna will always use 450 ohm window line for the balanced vertical element, not 300 ohm twin lead. The horizontal radial wires are black PVC jacketed #14 Gauge Stranded Copper wire. The top and bottom Interface units are polyester resin potted and completely water & weather proof and very rugged.

The horizontal wire elements are attached to the top center unit with very strong, durable metal compression fittings. The wire passes directly into the center unit with no outside connections to go bad, corrode and offer a bad signal connection. Even the end insulator has no exposed bare wire. It uses the same compression fitting. This antenna will last for many years.

It also uses light weight, high quality PVC dog bone insulators. As with all the our antenna components, they all are completely 100% UV stable, for many years of trouble free use. And what’s more they are completely built in the USA and all components are made in the USA with the exception of the SO-239 connector. The SO-239 connectors are Silver Plated, Teflon Insulated, with a Gold plated center conductor.

The W8AMZ Amateur Radio Products ZS6BKW/ G5RV is completely finished assembled and ready to hang. It requires about 92 feet of space and should be hung around 40 feet high or higher. It can be hung in a flat top or inverted V configuration. Unlike Windom’s and OCF Dipoles the ZS6BKW / G5RV is a very forgiving antenna with the consideration of nearby towers, trees, fences & other structures. They don’t seem to have a major effect on it.

As with all models of the G5RV antenna, the Optimized version also requires a minimum of 70 feet of 50-52 ohm coax to complete the matching network.
Without this 70 foot of coax, the antenna will NOT function correctly.
